Are we playing for the title or just watching the game?

I am currently watching one of the best documentaries about one of the best teams that have ever existed – the 90’s Chicago Bulls. The Last Dance. Maybe you have heard, maybe you are even watching. In case you are not, you definitely should.

It is so hard to compare the incomparable things like our team, that is not a basketball team or even a sports team. But on the other hand, you can always compare things. There is nothing bad in that.

In that case, who do you think you would be in that team. MJ? Scottie? Rodman? Kukoc? Paxon? Would there even be a character for you? Would you play in some weaker team? Would you play at all or rather be a spectator with a glass of beer in his hands sitting on the front row. May be your greatest life experience would be when Dennis Rodman spills that beer on your lap while jumping to the crowd trying to save the ball.

I know I am no Phil Jackson at the moment. Not yet. But I know that I play to win the game. Every game. And to win the championship at the end of the season. What is your aim? Do you want to win the title? Do you want to win the game that is ahead? Do you want to win the current round at every single practice?

Or perhaps you are happy just for the opportunity to play? Are you just pushing enough to keep your contract with the team for the next season? Or even worse, you know that this is your last season, so you just wait for the end of it?

These guys are kicking their own asses in every single practice. OK, they are getting paid millions per year, so it seems fair that they are pushing hard. But did they get to that team and to that contract by slacking at the practice? That kind of "die-hard" mentality is so deeply coded into their brain that it has been there since childhood and they still carry that until today.

These guys are playing 2-3 games per week. Having 2 workouts every day that is not a game day. This is what it takes to be on top of the world. It is not enough if we are practising and preparing for one thing in three months and after that say that the result was quite ok because it was 10% better than 3 months ago.

Our battles and challenges should be daily. We should be having 2 practises per day and 2 game days per week when we are performing at the world level. Even though we know we will not win every single game. Even if we know that it is super hard to win the championship title. Even to get to play for the world champion title, to play against those guys who win.

So what kind of team do we think we are? Are we doing what we can every single day? Do you want to win the title or even play for the title? If the answer is no, then let me know and let’s figure out a way what you can do with your future that would suit you better. You will get your fair compensations and those who want to move on as a winning team can play for the title.
